COUNTY OF HAWAII <br />RESOLUTION NO. 325 10 <br />STATE OF HAWAII <br />A RESOLUTION TO RECOGNIZE MAY 1, 2010, AS LAW DAY AND MAY 2 -8, <br />2010, AS LAW WEEK IN THE COUNTY OF HAWAII AND TO COMMEMORATE <br />THE ROLE OF LAW IN OUR LIVES. <br />WHEREAS, in 1958, President Dwight D. Eisenhower proclaimed May 1, 1958, to <br />be Law Day in the United States of America; and <br />WHEREAS, since 1958, a Presidential Proclamation has been issued every year <br />recognizing May 1 as Law Day; and <br />WHEREAS, on April 7, 1961, Law Day was codified by Public Law 87 -20, as <br />amended; and <br />WHEREAS, according to 36 U.S.C. § 113, Law Day is a special day of celebration <br />by the people of the United States in appreciation of their liberties and the reaffirmation of <br />their loyalty to the United States and of their rededication to the ideals of equality and justice <br />under law in their relations with each other and with other countries and for the cultivation of <br />the respect for law that is so vital to the democratic way of life; and <br />WHEREAS, this year marks the fifty- second year since the first Presidential <br />Proclamation of May 1 as Law Day and the forty -ninth year since the enactment of Law Day <br />by Public Law 87 -20; and <br />WHEREAS, the Hawai`i State Bar Association's Young Lawyers Division, the West <br />Hawai'i Bar Association, and the Hawai`i County Bar Association are committed to honoring <br />the traditions of Law Day by planning a week of law- related events known as "Law Week "; <br />and <br />WHEREAS, the Hawai`i State Bar Association will be celebrating Law Week from <br />May 2 -8, 2010; now, therefore, <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that it <br />hereby recognizes Saturday, May 1, 2010, as Law Day in the County of Hawai`i and calls <br />upon all citizens, schools, businesses, clubs, and the news media to commemorate the role of <br />law in our lives. <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the County Council hereby recognizes May 2 -8, <br />2010, as Law Week in the County of Hawai`i. <br />
