• <br /> COUNTY OF HAWAII >• Nsttei � STATE OF HAWAII <br /> ............ <br /> RESOLUTION NO. 332 10 <br /> A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE OFFICE OF HOUSING AND COMMUNITY <br /> DEVELOPMENT TO TRANSFER TWENTY FOUR HOUSING UNITS LOCATED IN <br /> KAWAIHAE TO COUNCIL DISTRICT FIVE FOR USE AS TRANSITIONAL <br /> HOUSING. <br /> WHEREAS, Kawaihae Transitional Housing managed by the Catholic Charities of <br /> Hawai`i will be closed in the near future; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Kawaihae Transitional Housing program contains 24 housing units that <br /> will be moved or demolished when the program has terminated; and <br /> WHEREAS, the County has no immediate plans for a low- income housing shelter in <br /> South Kohala; and <br /> WHEREAS, currently, Council District Five has a significant need for transitional <br /> housing for individuals or families; and <br /> WHEREAS, currently, Council District Five has large land areas within Lava Zones 1 & <br /> 2 where federal funds for constructing transitional housing are not available; and <br /> WHEREAS, the housing units moved to Council District Five would be located on <br /> County land near or adjacent to the community center in Pahoa; and <br /> WHEREAS, the County will advertise for a Request for Proposals to have an entity <br /> manage the units, once they are moved to their new location; and <br /> WHEREAS, the housing units will be deconstructed and moved from their present <br /> location in Kawaihae to Pahoa, and then reassembled at their new location in Pahoa through the <br /> use of volunteers; now, therefore, <br /> BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that the <br /> Office of Housing and Community Development is hereby authorized to transfer twenty four <br /> housing units now located at the Kawaihae Transitional Housing Program in South Kohala to <br /> Council District Five. <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the authorization to transfer the twenty four <br /> housing units shall take effect upon the closure of the Kawaihae Transitional Housing Program. <br />
