FY 2010 Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Program <br /> Local Solicitation <br /> PROGRAM NARRATIVE <br /> Hawaii County proposes to utilize Justice Assistance Grant funds for continued <br /> technology improvement, for training that will benefits law enforcement and prosecution, <br /> and support for prevention and education programs and initiatives to improve the safety <br /> and well -being of our community. <br /> Technology improvement. Technology is evolving rapidly and we seek to take <br /> advantage of every opportunity to meet increasing workload demands by implementing <br /> technology improvements. The grant will support further integration of our HITS case <br /> tracking system with HPD's RMS and with the HIJIS (Hawai`i Integrated Information <br /> Sharing) and JJIS (Juvenile Justice Information Sharing) initiatives to improve workflow <br /> and communications within the Hawaii criminal justice system. Funds will be used for <br /> system, programming and hardware upgrades. We will also utilize funds to upgrade our <br /> website to enable us to maintain updates in- house. <br /> Law Enforcement Training for Police and Prosecutors. Funding will be used to <br /> provide annual training opportunity for Police and Prosecutor staff. Training topics will <br /> include emerging issues and strategies as well as recurrent topics for new officers and <br /> prosecutors. Funding is also allocated for participation in appropriate U.S. Dept. of <br /> Justice, Office of Justice Program trainings. <br /> Community Prevention/Education. Funds will support efforts to proactively address <br /> problems impacting the safety and well -being of our island community. Projects will <br /> include: increasing elder abuse awareness, developing a youth gang assessment, <br /> supporting Pahoa Weed and Seed youth and community activities, and supporting youth <br /> and community prevention and education efforts. Priority will be given to collaborative <br /> projects and planning efforts that benefit a broad spectrum of the community. <br />
