(30) Amending Section K 3. Appendix K is amended by amending Section K 3 to <br /> read: <br /> "K 3 Area of Disposal Fields and Seepage Pits. <br /> The minimum effective absorption area in disposal fields in square feet (m of <br /> sidewall, shall be predicated on the required septic tank capacity in gallons <br /> (liters) and /or estimated waste /sewage flow rate, whichever is greater, and shall <br /> conform to Table K -4 as determined for the type of soil found in the <br /> excavation. The minimum effective absorption area could also be based upon a <br /> flow of 200 gallons per bedroom per day in accordance with Table K -6. Soil <br /> percolation tests shall be conducted at a minimum depth of three feet." <br /> (31) Amending Section K4 (C). Appendix K is amended by amending the first <br /> sentence of Section K4 (C) to read: <br /> "(C) When a percolation test is required, the test shall be conducted at a <br /> minimum depth of three feet, and no private disposal system shall be permitted <br /> to serve a building if that test shows the absorption capacity of the soil is less <br /> than 0.83 gallons per square foot (33.8 L /m or more than 5.12 gallons per <br /> square foot (208 L /m of leaching area per 24 hours." <br /> (32) Amending Section K5 (N)(1). Appendix K is amended by amending Section K5 <br /> (N)(1) to read: <br /> "(1) The septic tank shall be certified by IAPMO or a third party certification <br /> body accredited in accordance with ISO Guide 65, entitled "General <br /> Requirements for bodies operating product certification systems. ' <br /> (33) Amending Section K7 (C). Appendix K is amended by amending the first <br /> sentence of Section K 7(C) to read: <br /> "(C) Each seepage pit shall be circular in shape and shall have an excavated <br /> diameter of not less than six (6) feet (1,829 mm)." <br /> (34) Amending Table K -1. Appendix K is amended by amending Table K -1, Location of <br /> Sewage Disposal System, as follows: <br /> The minimum horizontal distances are revised to be consistent with Hawaii <br /> Administrative Rules Chapter 11 -62 "Wastewater Systems" distances. The revision to <br /> Table K -1 is limited to increasing from 100 feet to 1,000 feet the minimum horizontal <br /> distance in clear from a water supply well to a disposal field. <br /> 13 <br />
