AS V OS N ,
COUNTY OF HAWAII - • :6keft'. - STATE OF HAWAII
RESOLUTION NO. 386 10
A RESOLUTION RECOMMENDING THAT THE MAYOR DIRECT THE DIRECTOR
OF THE DEPARTMENT OF PARKS AND RECREATION TO HIRE TWO (2) FULL -
TIME LIFEGUARDS FOR THE SWIMMING POOL AT THE PAHOA COMMUNITY
AQUATIC CENTER.
WHEREAS, the swimming pool at the Pahoa Community Aquatic Center (hereinafter
"Pahoa Pool ") has recently experienced frequent closures due to a lack of sufficient lifeguard
staffing; and
WHEREAS, pool closures cause undue stress on the community, as opportunities for
aquatic recreation are limited in this area; and
WHEREAS, the Pahoa Pool provides a healthy environment for the youth of the area to
participate in positive activities that resonate within the community; and
WHEREAS, the Pahoa Pool is relied upon by many senior citizens to increase the
quality of their lives and promote a strong physical and mental well being; and
WHEREAS, the Hawai`i County Council recognizes that the community has embraced
and taken full advantage of this precious resource, and that the people of Pahoa and its
neighboring areas deserve a fully functional pool that will be open consistently without threat of
closure due to a lack of lifeguard personnel; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that it
strongly recommends to the Mayor that he direct the Director of the Department of Parks and
Recreation to hire two (2) fulltime lifeguards for the swimming pool at the Pahoa Community
Aquatic Center.
