The area within the existing limits of `Alae <br /> Cemetery are nearing capacity in terms of remaining burial plots and there exists an <br /> immediate need to provide additional plots. The County is the owner of another area of <br /> land which is immediately mauka and adjacent to the existing `Alae Cemetery and it was <br /> acquired specifically for the expansion of `Alae Cemetery. <br /> As stated in the Hawaii County Code 1983 (2005 Edition, as amended), Chapter 6 <br /> (BUSINESSES), Article 1 (Cemeteries), Section 6 -1 (Prohibition), the County Council <br /> must give its approval, by resolution, to enlarge or extend the area of any existing <br /> cemetery. Also, Section 6 -2 (Application) under the same Article of the County Code <br /> outlines what needs to be provided when making a request to establish, enlarge or <br /> extend a cemetery.
