1 WHEREAS, on Kauai the transient accommodations tax accounts <br /> 2 for approximately 7.8% of Kauai's general fund budget, on Hawaii <br /> 3 the transient accommodations tax accounts for approximately 5.5% <br /> 4 of Hawaii County's general fund budget, on Maui the transient <br /> 5 accommodations tax accounts for approximately 3.9% of Maui's <br /> 6 general fund budget, and on Oahu the transient accommodations <br /> 7 tax accounts for approximately 3.2% of Honolulu's general fund <br /> 8 budget; and <br /> 9 <br /> 10 WHEREAS, maintaining the current allocation of the <br /> 11 transient accommodations tax would allow the counties to <br /> 12 continue providing essential government services to visitors and <br /> 13 residents; and <br /> 14 <br /> 15 WHEREAS, losing the current allocation of the transient <br /> 16 accommodations tax would require counties to significantly raise <br /> 17 property taxes; now, therefore, <br /> 18 <br /> 19 BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the <br /> 20 Twenty -sixth Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session <br /> 21 of 2011, the Senate concurring, that the Governor and the <br /> 22 Legislature of the State of Hawaii are urged to preserve the <br /> 23 counties' share of the transient accommodations tax; and <br /> 24 <br /> 25 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this <br /> 26 Concurrent Resolution be transmitted to the Governor, the <br /> 27 President of the Hawaii State Association of Counties, and the <br /> 28 Mayors of the counties of Kauai, Hawaii, Honolulu, and Maui. <br /> 29 <br /> 30 <br /> 31 OFFERED BY: <br />
