The purpose of the special meeting is to consider the confirmation of nine nominees to serve on the 2011 Redistricting Commission. The nine nominees were forwarded by Mayor William P. Kenoi to the Clerk's Office on February 15, 2011. Hawaii County Charter, Section 3- 17(d), 2008 edition, states in part: "The year 1991 and every year thereafter shall be reapportionment years. The reapportionment commission shall be appointed and confirmed by March 1 of the reapportionment year." Section 2, proposal No. 5 of the 2009 -2010 County of Hawaii Charter Commission, which was duly approved by the electorate at the 2010 general election, states that the 2011 Redistricting Commission shall be appointed in the manner of Section 3 -17(d) of the 2008 edition of the Charter. As such, and to follow the requirements of the Charter, and pursuant to Charter 3 -17 and rule 2 of the rules of procedure, I am announcing a special meeting to be held on March 1, 2011 at 6:00 p.m. at the Hilo Council Chambers.
