AGING <br />DEPARTMENT SUMMARY <br />Mission Statement <br />To establish a system of services in Hawaii County which will enable older persons to <br />reach and maintain the highest level of dignity, independence, and personal well- being. <br />Department Goals <br />1. To improve the accessibility of services to older individuals who are in greatest social <br />and/or economic need, or who are severely disabled. <br />2. To enable older persons to live at home for as long as possible by developing and <br />maintaining an effective network of community -based support services. <br />3. To develop and maintain supportive programs and services that address the needs of <br />caregivers to enable them to continue giving care. <br />4. To develop and maintain services aimed at protecting the rights of older persons, <br />particularly the socially and economically disadvantaged. <br />5. To improve the capacity of the Office of Aging to serve as an effective Area Agency <br />on Aging by promoting private, public and community collaborations to address <br />existing and emerging aging issues. <br />6.
