This increase in appropriation reflects the updated allocation to be <br />received from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development for the period of <br />July 1, 2010 through June 30, 2011 for the Housing Choice Voucher (Section 8) Program. <br />The $2,500,000 is to be used to pay for the rental assistance of eligible participants in the <br />program. The Office of Housing and Community Development expects to expend this <br />allocation by June 30, 2011. <br />In order to ensure that payments to the Section 8 program landlords are not delayed, <br />approval must be in place by May 1, 2011. To expedite this matter, the Office of Housing <br />and Community Development requests a waiver from the Finance Committee and to have <br />this bill heard at the next Council meeting scheduled for March 16, 2011. <br />If there are any questions, please do not hesitate to call Stephen J.
