+ tV Oi N <br /> COUNTY OF HAWAII �:� STATE OF HAWAII <br /> Tj OFNi' <br /> RESOLUTION NO. 59 11 <br /> A RESOLUTION REQUESTING GOVERNOR NEIL ABERCROMBIE TO SET ASIDE <br /> SIXTY ACRES OF LAND LOCATED IN THE VICINITY OF MANINI`OWALI- <br /> AWAKE`E, NORTH KONA, HAWAII, FOR THE ESTABLISHMENT OF A WEST <br /> HAWAII MULTI - PURPOSE AND INTER - GENERATIONAL VETERANS CENTER. <br /> WHEREAS, there already exists a West Hawaii Veterans Cemetery -Pu`u Ho`omaha O <br /> Na Po`e Koa O Hawaii, which is located on sixty -two acres of land, that currently serves an <br /> estimated 7,000 veterans on the island of Hawaii; and <br /> WHEREAS, there are more than 16,000 veterans on the island of Hawaii, a significant <br /> number of whom reside in West Hawaii, who have expressed an overwhelming desire and <br /> support for a veterans center in central West Hawaii; and <br /> WHEREAS, there is a need to provide adequate facilities for veteran groups in West <br /> Hawaii, such as the American Legion Posts, Disabled American Veterans, Veterans of Foreign <br /> Wars, Korean War Veterans Association, Vietnam Era Veterans Association, Camp Tawara <br /> Detachment #1255 of the Marine Corps League, Big Island National Guard Retirees Association, <br /> Big Island Retired Military Association, 100' Infantry Battalion Veterans (also known as Club <br /> 100),442 nd Veterans Association, Interpreters Club, Hawaii Island Women Veterans <br /> Association, Hawaii Island Veterans Memorial, Inc., and Military Order of the Purple Heart; <br /> and <br /> WHEREAS, the West Hawaii Veterans Cemetery-Pu`u Ho`omaha O Na Po`e Koa O <br /> Hawaii is not equipped to serve the social needs of veterans, veteran organizations and veteran <br /> associations, by providing a central facility to hold large gatherings, funeral services, and <br /> military- related celebrations; and <br /> WHEREAS, there exists an opportunity of relocating the existing Kailua -Kona <br /> Community Based Outpatient Clinic to a new West Hawaii Veterans Center to better <br /> accommodate the needs of veterans, as the premises currently leased by the Kailua -Kona <br /> Community Based Outpatient Clinic expires in two years, and its current location presents <br /> significant accessibility issues and parking difficulties; and <br /> WHEREAS, House Resolution No. 142 and House Concurrent Resolution No. 163, <br /> re- referred to the Committee on Finance on April 1, 2011, request that the Governor set aside <br /> and transfer sixty acres of land to support the establishment of a West Hawaii Multi - Purpose <br /> and Inter - Generational Veterans Center; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Council of the County of Hawaii concurs with the intent and purpose <br /> of House Resolution No. 142 and House Concurrent Resolution No. 163, and submits this <br />
