REQUEST: <br /> Prepare resolution authorizing the Mayor to enter into an agreement to subgrant with the State of Hawaii, <br /> Board of Land and Natural Resources, and to accept funds for the acquisition of Kawa, District of Ka'u, <br /> Island of Hawaii. <br /> B. BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION (USE ADDITIONAL SHEETS AS NEEDED): <br /> The State of Hawaii, Department of Land and Natural Resources, Division of Forestry and Wildlife applied <br /> for grant funding from the United States, Department of the Interior, Fish and Wildlife Service, Recovery <br /> Land Acquisition for the "Kawa Bay Acquisition and Habitat Restoration Project ". On July 1, 2008, Federal <br /> Assistance Award E- 17 -RL -1 for $1,000,000.00 was awarded to the County of Hawaii for acquisition of the <br /> lands at Kawa, Ka'u, Island of Hawaii for the performance period July 1, 2008 to June 30, 2011.
