The City Government of Ormoc City is pleased to learn about the Sister-County Relationship
with Big Island (Hawaii County) County. As City Mayor, we are expressing our intent in
entering into a sister county relationship with your city.
We have sent our city data/information on our city's business atmosphere, city treasury status,
local income source and also of our agricultural programs through Ms. Jane Clement. My office
had also sent you some photos of the Energy Development Corporation Geothermal Plant.
1 have learned that our cities have a lot in common, in terms of climate, topography and
economy. Indeed, Ormoc City is very much interested of forging the connection and enter into a
mutually benefitting relationship. Our local government had initiated numerous innovative and
sustainable programs which your city might find relevant and adoptable; and we are also
interested of teaming new measures from your end.

The County of Hawaii is equally pleased to learn about this proposed Sister - County Relationship with
Ormoc City. As mayor of our beautiful island county, we humbly accept your invitation to enter into this
agreement with your equally beautiful city.
The presentation by the Congress of Visayan Organizations through Ms. Jane Clement was both
compelling and educational. We are surprised by the commonalities between our homes, including
climate, topography and economy. However, we are well aware of the contributions made by Sakada
immigrants and their descendants who played important and critical roles in the 20th Century history of
Hawaii.
We are particularly intrigued by your achievement of virtual energy independence through the use of
geothermal power. We have many lessons to learn from your experience and the Hilo Visayan Club's
proactive step of reaching out to Mike Kaleikini of Puna Geothermal Venture, shows the level support by
local service organizations for this proposed arrangement. We hope to be able to help you and your city
and are willing to share our knowledge in any and all relevant matters, including agriculture and
aquaculture.
I have already accepted an offer by Councilwoman Brittany Smart to begin the process of formalizing this
relationship through a resolution by the Hawaii County Council. We would like to tentatively invite you to
visit Hawaii the week of Sept. 11 to visit Hawaii County and to sign the sister- county agreement during
the Asia - Pacific Clean Energy Summit and Expo, to be held Sept. 12 -15 in Honolulu. We will follow up
with details at a later date.
