- w r r.sx RWt, Jr <br />9 0 <br />J�SV' OI •�!L \ <br />•.3�:Jr <br />COUNTY OF HAW ` ` STATE <br />ST <br />ORDINANCE NO. <br />OF HAWAII <br />BILL NO. 216 <br />AN ORDINANCE NAMING A COUNTY RECREATIONAL FACILITY (TMK: 2-3-06:03) <br />PURSUANT TO CHAPTER 15, HAWAII COUNTY CODE 1983 (1995 EDITION). <br />BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII: <br />SECTION 1. Findings and purpose. The purpose of this ordinance is to designate the <br />name "Liholiho Garden" for that certain County recreational facility, identified by Tax Map <br />Key: (3) 2-3-06:03, pursuant to Chapter 15; Hawaii County Code, which establishes guidelines <br />for the naming of such facilities. Section 15-67(a)(2)(B), HCC, provides that any "open area" <br />County facility shall, inter alia, be named for a former member of the Hawaiian monarchy. The <br />subject parcel is an open area landscaped park located in the downtown area of Hilo and <br />developed by the Hilo Outdoor Circle. The name "Liholiho" refers to the member of the <br />Hawaiian monarchy known as Kamehameha II. Liholiho's full name was Kalani-nui-kua- <br />liholiho-i-ke-kapu, which has been translated as "The heavens with great glowing". The son of <br />Kamehameha I, he was born somewhere near the mouth of the Wailuku River, which lies in <br />close proximity to the subject park. <br />SECTION 2. Notwithstanding any other law to the contrary, that certain open area <br />County park identified by TMK (3) 2-3-06:03 is hereby named "Liholiho Garden." <br />SECTION 3. In the event that any portion of this ordinance is declared invalid,, such <br />invalidity shall not affect the other parts of this ordinance. <br />SECTION 4.
