JMtV us N,� �IJigi COUNTY OF HAWAII + STATE OF HAWAII RESOLUTION NO. 13� Z1 A RESOLUTION APPROVING THE ESTABLISHMENT OF A SISTER-CITY RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN GOKSEONG COUNTY, SOUTH KOREA AND THE COUNTY OF HAWAII, AND AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII TO ENTER INTO A FORMAL SIGNED AGREEMENT. WHEREAS,the Mayor of the County of Hawaii and the Hawaii County Council have jointly promoted a Sister-City program to foster friendship and understanding among all of the world, particularly those in the Pacific Basin; and WHEREAS,the Sister-City program benefits the people of the affiliated cities through the exchange of cultural exhibits, educational programs, agricultural pursuits, information relative to economic development of mutual interest, and other matters of common interest; and WHEREAS, contact has been made between officials of the government of Gokseong County, South Korea and the County of Hawaii to discuss the establishment of a Sister-City relationship between the two counties; and WHEREAS, Gokseong County, South Korea, and the County of Hawaii share commonalities, as both counties rely on the economies of tourism, construction, agriculture and education to support their populations; and WHEREAS, many community organizations including, but not limited to: Cho Global— Hawai`i, the University of Nations, the Korean Community Association, and the Korean Christian Church, have expressed their willingness to support the formation of said Sister-City relationship; and WHEREAS,the County of Hawaii would be pleased and honored to be affiliated with Gokseong County, South Korea; now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that pursuant to chapter 2, article 31, section 2-165 of the Hawaii County Code 1983 (2005 Edition, as amended), a Sister-City program shall be established between the County of Hawaii and the good people of Gokseong County, South Korea; and
