Ford, Brenda
From: Rosario, Darren
Sent: Wednesday, October 12, 2011 3:19 PM
To: Ford, Brenda
Cc: AhChoy, Noel
Subject: Fire Department Apparatus
Attachments: Vehicle Condition Inventory 2011 Number 3.xls
Aloha Council Member Ford,
Attached is the spreadsheet of our current fleet. The replacement time indicated on
the sheet is an estimated time utilizing a national average of expected useful life of
an apparatus of about 17 years. This actually changes with the actual use and care of
the apparatus. For Example, Prior to the Captain Cook Fire Station receiving their new
Fire Apparatus, they had a Primary Fire Apparatus that was built in the late 1980s.
However, it was well maintained and serviceable. Our Department members are
known to care for, take pride, and extend the life of our vehicles. However, with an
increased age, it presents a more frequency of maintenance and repair.
The Vehicles identified in Bold Yellow are those apparatus that have an open rear -
seating cab. These are no longer compliant with the recommended safety standards
of the National Fire Protection Association Standard on Fire Apparatus 1901.
The ambulances have a required 7 year or 200,000 mile replacement for a primary
ambulance. For all units designated as "Spare ", there are no set age or mileage
requirements and they are usually replaced as indicated by condition and age.
All current Primary Vehicles that are replaced become Spare apparatus. We also
utilize these for our Volunteer Companies as well.
It is my intent to develop a fleet replacement schedule that can be used as a credible
guideline for seeking replacements. I fully understand that we are not currently able
to replace apparatus at will and at the estimated times I have indicated. Our
Department members are grateful for any apparatus replacements that are occurring
in light of our current fiscal condition
Thank you for your assistance and patience. Please feel free to contact me.
Darren Rosario
Fire Chief
