No. 432 <br />Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Communication 432, reports as follows: <br />Communication 432, transmitted by Mayor William P. Kenoi, dated October 13, 2011, <br />nominates George J. Handgis to the County of Hawaii Salary Commission: <br />Mr. Handgis is a 17 -year resident of Hawaii. He is the president of Gentrys Kona Marina, <br />Vice Chair of the Governor's Small business Regulatory Review Board (SBRRB), a member of <br />the Kona Crime Prevention Committee and a Trustee of the Jonathan Dale Miller Foundation. <br />Mr. Handgis states that he is a Republican. If confirmed, he will serve the remainder of a term <br />that has been vacant since December 31, 2007. That term will expire on December 31, 2012, <br />and at that time Mr. Handgis will be eligible to serve a full term that will expire on <br />December 31, 2017. <br />Pursuant to Section 13 -28, Hawaii County Charter, there shall be a salary commission, <br />consisting of nine members, appointed by the Mayor and confirmed by the County Council. <br />Mr. Handgis appeared before Your Committee and stated he brings his work experience to the <br />salary commission. Council Member Angel Pilago knows Mr. Handgis and seeks the members <br />support on this nomination. <br />Mr. Pilago commented to Executive Assistant Char Shigemura as to an error on communication <br />received from administration regarding Mr. Handgis resume. Furthermore, Mr. Pilago noted that <br />in the council rules, the mayor's nominees should be referred separately, as the council votes on <br />each nominee individually. <br />The Committee specified that Mr. Handgis does not have to attend the full Council for final <br />confirmation. <br />FC Report No. 150 <br />
