No. 494 <br /> PLACE: Council Chambers <br /> Hilo, Hawai`i <br /> TIME: 9:02 a.m. <br /> Council Chair and Members <br /> Hawai`i County Council <br /> Hilo, Hawai`i 96720 <br /> Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Communication 494, reports as follows: <br /> Communication 494, transmitted by Mayor William P. Kenoi, dated November 28, 2011, <br /> nominates Ms. Gloria K. Wong of Council District 4, to the County of Hawai`i Salary <br /> Commission. <br /> A lifelong resident of Hawai`i, Ms. Wong is a self-employed business consultant and a freelance <br /> writer. Ms. Wong is a former member of the Hawai`i County Cost of Government Commission <br /> and the Hawai`i County Board of Appeals. She states that she is a Democrat. If confirmed, she <br /> will serve a term to end December 31, 2016. <br /> Pursuant to Section 13-28, Hawai`i County Code, there shall be a salary commission, consisting <br /> of nine members who shall be residents of the county, appointed by the Mayor and confirmed by <br /> the County Council. <br /> Ms. Charmaine Shigemura, Executive Assistant, Office of the Mayor, appeared before Your <br /> Committee to introduce Ms. Wong. <br /> Your Committee clarified that Ms. Wong does not have to appear before the full Council for <br /> final confirmation. <br /> Your Committee on Finance is in accord with the purpose and intent of Communication 494, and <br /> recommends confirmation of the appointment of Ms. Gloria K.
