Kubojiri
Police Chief
Paul K. Ferreira
Deputy Police Chief
a,
-.a
vw
w
This is in response to your correspondence of December 29, 2011, regarding our
department's marked vehicle program.
There were 33 marked vehicles purchased, of which 16 are sedans and 17 are sport utility
vehicles. The vehicles were acquired between April and May of 2009 for $1,967,289.00.
The cost to maintain these vehicles for the period from purchase through December 31,
2011, was $129,029.90.
In short, my assessment of the marked vehicle program is that while it is beneficial to
maintain a small fleet of these vehicles to safely facilitate the transportation of prisoners
and accessing areas with unimproved roads, maintaining the current fleet of 33 vehicles
and/or expanding it is not cost effective.
Staff will provide the figures from which I have based this conclusion at the January 19,
2012 Committee of Social Services, Human Services and Public Safety meeting.
Sincerely,
A
POLI E CHIEF
IRI
"Hawei County is an Equal Opportunity Provider and Employer"
