AGING <br /> DEPARTMENT SUMMARY <br /> Mission Statement <br /> To establish a system of services in Hawai`i County which will enable older persons to <br /> reach and maintain the highest level of dignity, independence, and personal well-being. <br /> Department Goals <br /> 1. To improve the accessibility of services to older individuals who are in greatest social <br /> and/or economic need, or who are severely disabled. <br /> 2. To enable older persons to live at home for as long as possible by developing and <br /> maintaining an effective network of community-based support services. <br /> 3. To develop and maintain supportive programs and services that addresses the needs <br /> of caregivers to enable them to continue giving care. <br /> 4. To develop and maintain services aimed at protecting the rights of older persons, <br /> particularly the socially and economically disadvantaged. <br /> 5. To improve the capacity of the Office of Aging to serve as an effective Area Agency <br /> on Aging by promoting private,public and community collaborations to address <br /> existing and emerging aging issues. <br /> 6.
