Kiriu <br /> Legislative Auditor <br /> FROM: Peter Boucher <br /> Division Chief <br /> SUBJECT: Preliminary Draft Financial Audit Report for the County of Hawaii <br /> Fiscal Year Ended June 30, 1996 <br /> Thank you for the opportunity to comment on the Auditors report concerning Sewer <br /> Accounts Receivables. <br /> Recommendation: Pursue collection of past due sewer accounts, evaluate the <br /> effectiveness of collection procedures, and write off uncollectible balances. <br /> The Division submitted a request for proposal to contract services of <br /> collection from different private collection agencies. When the proposal <br /> responses are received, the Division will be given the opportunity to evaluate <br /> and choose an appropriate agency which to pursue collection efforts with. <br /> The Division has begun to make follow-up contact with the current collection <br /> agency to update the collection account status. Upon confirmation, the <br /> Division is able to write off receivable balances deemed uncollectible. <br /> The Division and Corporation Counsel have met with one of the largest <br /> collection accounts and a payment plan agreement is in process. <br /> The Division hopes to make more progress hereafter.
