No. 616/Bill 206 <br />PLACE: Council Chambers <br />Kailua-Kona, Hawaii 96740 <br />TIME: 11:14 a.m. <br />Council Chair and Members <br />Hawaii County Council <br />Hilo, Hawaii 96720 <br />Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Bill 206, reports as follows: <br />Bill 206, transmitted by Finance Director Nancy Crawford via Communication No. 616, dated <br />March 1, 2012, amends Ordinance No. 11-59, as amended, the Operating Budget for the County of <br />Hawaii for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2012. The amendment is as follows: <br />From: <br />010.3308.73 Federal Grants — Distracted Driving General $13,000 <br />Project <br />To: <br />010.201.5216.41 Distracted Driving Project General $13,000 <br />The bill amends the Operating Budget by appropriating the additional funds into the Distracted <br />Driving Project account. <br />Pursuant to Section 46-7, Hawaii Revised Statutes, County departments must obtain the consent of <br />the Council to enter into agreements with the Federal or State governments respecting action to be <br />taken pursuant to any powers granted by law to furnish, expend, and receive any funds or other <br />assistance in connection with projects being or to be undertaken pursuant to those powers. <br />The State of Hawaii Department of Transportation Public Affairs — Safe Community Program is <br />providing an additional funding of $13,000 to the Hawaii County Police Department's Distracted <br />Driving Project. These funds to be used to conduct an additional 140 hours of Distracted Driving <br />enforcement increase the total appropriation for this fiscal year from $25,278.40 to $38,278.40. <br />Sergeant Robert Pauole, Hawaii Police Department Traffic Services appeared before Your <br />Committee, and available should the committee council members have any questions. Mr. Pauole <br />briefly commented on the distracted driving project and their continued efforts to enforce Chapter 24, <br />Article 7 of the Hawaii County Code. <br />Ms. Ford informed Mr. Pauole that a Police Department representative does not need to appear on <br />this matter at the April 4, 2012 Council meeting. <br />There was no further discussion on this measure. <br />FC Report No. 208 <br />
