MtvOSM� <br />tpJ � v MNli�1 <br />COUNTY OF HAWAII STATE OF HAWAII <br />Tl OF•M►i <br />RESOLUTION NO. 254 12 <br />A RESOLUTION ENCOURAGING THE DEPARTMENT OF PARKS AND <br />RECREATION TO INCREASE THE HOURS IN COUNTY PARK FACILITIES. <br />WHEREAS, Currently, most park facilities close at approximately 7:00 p.m., which in <br />the summer time is still during daylight hours; and <br />WHEREAS, Many families and groups would like to enjoy park facilities at least until <br />the sun goes down; and <br />WHEREAS, Because of these hours, many families are forced to cut short their <br />enjoyment of the facilities to pack up and exit prior to closing; and <br />WHEREAS, Extending park hours to 10:00 p.m. will allow families to enjoy their time <br />at parks without hurrying; and <br />WHEREAS, The goal of the Department of Parks and Recreation is to promote a more <br />active lifestyle for Hawaii Island residents; <br />WHEREAS, Gatherings of family and friends at parks for recreation or events <br />encourages the strengthening of family and friendship, increasing the overall health and welfare <br />of island citizens; <br />WHEREAS, Park and Recreation facilities are appropriately equipped and staffed to <br />provide a safe and fun environment for families and friends to gather; now therefore, <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that it <br />requests the Mayor and the Director of the Department of Parks and Recreation to take the <br />necessary steps to increase the hours at Parks and Recreation facilities island -wide to 10:00 p.m. <br />in the evening. <br />
