Tuesday-July 31, 2012
Hawaii County Council—Planning Committee
Comm. 492—Bill 156
Three Acres (A-3a) versus One Acre (FA1a)
My name is Lynnette Uyesato and I have lived in Panaewa since 1958. My parents bought our
parcel with the purpose of farming the land. We have grown/harvested coffee in the 1960s,
then grew anthuriums under fern trees and now have an orchard of macadamia trees. My Dad
(who is 95 years old) picked up the nuts until last fall.
Please do not allow any changes to the status of our farming neighborhood. We want to keep
our quiet, friendly community safe and productive. There is no need to change our district
classification.
Save our lifestyle of farming and keep the minimum designation to 3 acres. Without farms, on
the Big Island, where would you buy tropical fruits& homegrown vegetables?Where would
you get island flowers&foliage? Why hurt the families who work the land in Panaewa?
Did the immigrants who came to Hawaii plan on working the plantations just to buy land so
they could sell them and live in condos? NO, they worked hard to purchase land to provide
for their children and instill the value of nurturing the land.
Keep the country atmosphere in Panaewa and protect the rights of those who truly value how
much can be done with farming.
Thank you very much.
Comm. No. X L.
Ref.To:
Ref. Date..lUL 3 1 2012
