''‘:'''c7i.;1,4 <br /> .,.'.. <br /> COUNTY OF HAWAII :•I =;.74 • STATE OF HAWAI I <br /> 7TH Gf•M�,i� <br /> RESOLUTION NO. 307 12 <br /> A RESOLUTION URGING THE UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF <br /> TRANSPORTATION TO APPROVE THE APPLICATION OF HAWAIIAN AIRLINES <br /> FOR ALLOCATION OF A NONSTOP ROUTE BETWEEN HANEDA, JAPAN AND <br /> KONA, HAWAII. <br /> WHEREAS, four major airlines have filed an application with the United States <br /> Department of Transportation asking the Federal Government for permission to offer a nonstop <br /> route originating at Tokyo's Haneda Airport to four different points in the United States; and <br /> WHEREAS, Hawaiian Airlines, the largest airline in the State of Hawai`i, has applied <br /> for a nonstop route between Haneda and the Kona International Airport; and <br /> WHEREAS, Kona has more visitors who originate from Japan than the 12 existing <br /> markets that provide nonstop service to Tokyo, and has been without direct service from Japan <br /> since November 2010; and <br /> WHEREAS, Tokyo is Kona's largest international origin market, and Kona is the second <br /> largest destination market without nonstop service from Tokyo; and <br /> WHEREAS, Hawaiian Airlines' extensive neighbor island routes provide frequent <br /> connections to other islands within the archipelago, which creates expansion opportunities to <br /> other Hawai`i destinations; and <br /> WHEREAS, Hawaiian Airlines' A330-200 aircraft, with 294 seats, offers more capacity <br /> than the other three airlines applying to the U.S. Department of Transportation for allocation of a <br /> nonstop route originating at Haneda; and <br /> WHEREAS,there is an established demand for a nonstop service route between Haneda <br /> and Kona that will have positive economic impacts on Hawai`i Island, create an opportunity to <br /> restore lost service to Japan, and increase the potential for corresponding positive impacts to the <br /> State of Hawai`i and the U.S. economy; now, therefore, <br /> BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII, that the <br /> United States Department of Transportation is urged to approve the application of Hawaiian <br /> Airlines for allocation of a nonstop route between Haneda, Japan and Kona, Hawai`i. <br />
