No. 831/Bill No. 299 PLACE: Council Chambers Kailua-Kona, Hawai`i TIME: 4:22 p.m. Council Chair and Members Hawaii County Council Hilo, Hawai`i 96720 Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Bill No. 299, reports as follows: Bill No. 299, transmitted by Finance Director Nancy Crawford via Communication No. 831, dated August 29, 2012, amends Ordinance No. 12-86 as amended, the Operating Budget for the County of Hawai`i for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2013. The amendment is as follows: From: 010.3308.73 Federal Grants— Distracted Driving General $ 12,417 Project To: 010.201.5216.41 Distracted Driving Project General $ 12,417 The State Department of Transportation Public Affairs— Safe Community Program is providing an additional funding of$12,417 to the Hawai`i County Police Department's Distracted Driving program. Funds will be used to allow the Police Department to reduce the number of drivers using an electronic mobile device while operating a motor vehicle and increase the number of electronic mobile device citations. In the current fiscal year's budget, $25,500 was appropriated in anticipation of this grant. The bill amends the Operating Budget by appropriating the additional funds into the Distracted Driving program account and bringing the total grant appropriation to $37,917. Pursuant to Section 46-7, Hawaii Revised Statutes, County departments must obtain the consent of the Council to enter into agreements with the Federal or State governments respecting action to be taken pursuant to any powers granted by law to furnish, expend, and receive any funds or other assistance in connection with projects being or to be undertaken pursuant to those powers.
