Corp state - ° <br /> program, Planning Committee, Introducer: Ford c•' <br /> v --Y- <br /> Dear County Council Members, <br /> I support the resolution 303-12 introduced by Brenda Ford. <br /> Geothermal development in populated areas with volatile seismic <br /> activity is TOXIC AND DANGEROUS in many ways, including the <br /> leaking of toxic gasses, potentially creating earthquakes in an unstable <br /> area, contamination of groundwater and oceans, creation and storage of <br /> toxic waste, and the potential for accidents that require massive <br /> evacuations. To not study these things in GREAT DETAIL BEFORE <br /> proceeding with even one Geothermal Project in a Lava Zone 1 or 2 <br /> seismic area is COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE . <br /> An EIS must be required in EVERY PROJECT related to developing <br /> geothermal power and PUBLIC INPUT MUST be required before <br /> approving projects. <br /> In addition, If an EXISTING Geothermal Development Project has <br /> NOT COMPLETED AN IN-DEPTH EIS THAT PROVES IT IS SAFE, <br /> SUCH DEVELOPMENT SHOULD BE HALTED IMMEDIATELY <br /> UNTIL SUCH TIME AS AN EIS HAS BEEN COMPLETED & <br /> REVIEWED BY A COMMITTEE THAT INCLUDES RESIDENTS <br /> FROM THE AREAS SITED FOR SUCH DEVELOPMENT, whose lives, <br /> health, families and land are AT RISK. <br /> The Public Land Development Corporation needs to be abolished, as <br /> it is deeply flawed in its conception.
