Corp state program, Planning <br /> Committee, Introducer: Ford <br /> Dear County Council Members, <br /> I support the resolution 303-12 introduced by Brenda Ford. It is vital that the <br /> implications be thoroughly assessed regarding current and future geothermal develpment. <br /> Geothermal development in populated areas with volatile seismic activity is TOXIC <br /> AND DANGEROUS in many ways, including the leaking of toxic gasses, potentially creating <br /> earthquakes in an unstable area, contamination of groundwater and oceans, creation and <br /> storage of toxic waste, and the potential for accidents that require massive evacuations. <br /> To not study these things in GREAT DETAIL BEFORE proceeding with even one Geothermal <br /> Project in a Lava Zone 1 or 2 seismic area is COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE . <br /> An EIS must be required in EVERY PROJECT related to developing geothermal power <br /> and PUBLIC INPUT MUST be required before approving projects. <br /> In addition, If an EXISTING Geothermal Development Project has NOT COMPLETED AN IN- <br /> DEPTH EIS THAT PROVES IT IS SAFE, SUCH DEVELOPMENT SHOULD BE HALTED IMMEDIATELY UNTIL SUCH <br /> TIME AS AN EIS HAS BEEN COMPLETED & REVIEWED BY A COMMITTEE THAT INCLUDES RESIDENTS FROM <br /> THE AREAS SITED FOR SUCH DEVELOPMENT, whose lives, health, families and land are AT RISK. <br /> The Public Land Development Corporation needs to be abolished, as it is deeply <br /> flawed in its conception. Any execution of its potential actions at this time will only <br /> create a quagmire of LEGAL ENTANGLEMENTS and CIVIL UNREST. <br /> Know that VOTERS ARE WATCHING YOUR ACTIONS ON THIS ISSUE CAREFULLY & YOUR <br /> CONTINUED PUBLIC SERVICE MAY VERY WELL DEPEND ON A RESPONSE THAT REPRESENTS HAWAII <br /> RESIDENTS & NOT CORPORATE DEVELOPMENT. <br /> Please keep me informed of any opportunity to give additional testimony to help <br /> with this resolution, so essential to the health and well being of my Community. <br /> ry <br /> CP <br /> Comm.
