Without their support of my Q
mission, to demonstrate a viable alternative way to build structures, I
probably would have given up. I started in 1999 building with natural
bamboo, joined together with a steel joint system that I developed, that
would prove to be an engineerable and permitable means of building in a
local and sustainable way. Those structures are currently illegal, but
are considered portable and therefore were acceptable at the time.
This is the way of the future that could result in an agricultural
based industry that would provide jobs and much more IF YOU VOTE IN
FAVOR OF RESOLUTIONS TO ALLOW ALTERNATIVES IN BUILDING REGUALATIONS. The
building code resolutions before you now are one important step toward
allowing local people's enginuity to provide needed criteria for
innovations that could change our dependancy on imported raw materials
with a superior local means of independence.
When I see the structures that are built to the current code standards I
feel like our unique environment, culture, and location has been
ignored. Please consider this as an opportunity to make a huge
difference for Hawaii island to lead the way toward a wiser future that
will support us all economically, socially, and sensibly.
Regards,
Leimana Pelton
Leimana Pelton, owner
Eco Terrestrial Concepts,LLC
president
Bamboo Village Hawaii, Inc.
808-769-9070 Hawaii, 64-32-9998033271 Philippines
Comm.
