REPORT OF THE <br /> COMMITTEE ON FINANCE <br /> DATE: January 8, 2013 Re: Comm. No. 39 <br /> PLACE: Council Chambers <br /> Hilo, Hawai`i <br /> TIME: 2:40 p.m. <br /> Council Chair and Members <br /> Hawai`i County Council <br /> Hilo, Hawai`i 96720 <br /> Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Communication No. 39, reports as follows: <br /> Communication No. 39, transmitted by Mayor William P. Kenoi, dated December 18, 2012, requests <br /> review and favorable recommendation of the nomination of Mr. Dean Au of Council District 4 to the <br /> County of Hawai`i Public Access, Open Space, and Natural Resources Preservation Commission. <br /> A lifelong resident of Hawai`i, Mr. Au is a carpenter and is presently employed by the Hawai`i <br /> Carpenter's Union. He is a member of the St. Joseph School Board and is the Hilo Apprenticeship <br /> Coordinator for the Carpenter's Union. He currently volunteers as a youth basketball and track and field <br /> coach. Mr. Au states that he is not affiliated with any political party. If confirmed, he will serve a term <br /> that expires on December 31, 2017. <br /> Ms. Charmaine Shigemura, Executive Assistant to Mayor Kenoi, came forward and provided <br /> background information, expressed the Mayor's support, and requested Council's favorable action of <br /> this appointment. Mr. Au was unavailable due to being off island. He is not required to be present at <br /> full Council for final confirmation. <br /> Several Council Members expressed support of Mr. Au's appointment to the commission. <br /> Pursuant to Article 42, §2-215(a), Hawai`i County Code, there is established a Public Access, Open <br /> Space, and Natural Resources Preservation Commission, which shall consist of nine members, <br /> appointed by the Mayor and confirmed by the Council. <br /> Your Committee on Finance is in accord with the purpose and intent of Comm. 39, and recommends <br /> confirmation of Mr. Au to the County of Hawaii Public Access, Open Space and Natural Resources <br /> Preservation Commission. <br /> sc <br /> AYES NOES A&E EX Respectfully submitted, <br /> EOFF X <br /> FORD X COMMITTEE ON FINANCE <br /> ILAGAN X <br /> KANUHA X <br /> KERN X - <br /> ONISHI X <br /> POINDEXTER X VALERIE T.
