.�JMtr Os M...i . <br /> COUNTY OF HAWAII STATE OF HAWAII <br /> of•N. <br /> RESOLUTION NO. 76 13 <br /> A RESOLUTION URGING THE HAWAII STATE LEGISLATURE TO <br /> APPROPRIATE FUNDS FOR SITE SELECTION AND PLANNING OF THE WEST <br /> HAWAII VETERANS CENTER. <br /> WHEREAS, there are more than 16,000 Veterans on the island of Hawai`i, a significant <br /> number of whom reside in West Hawai`i, who have expressed an overwhelming desire and <br /> support for a veterans center; and <br /> WHEREAS, there is a need to provide adequate facilities for veteran groups in West <br /> Hawai`i, such as the American Legion, Disabled American Veterans, Veterans of Foreign Wars, <br /> Korean War Veterans Association, Vietnam Era Veterans Association, Camp Tarawa <br /> Detachment#1255 of the Marine Corps League, Big Island National Guard Retirees Association, <br /> Big Island Retired Military Association, 100th Infantry Battalion Veterans, 442"d Veterans <br /> Association, Interpreters Club, Hawai`i Island Women Veterans Association, Hawai`i Island <br /> Veterans Memorial, Inc., and Military Order of the Purple Heart; and <br /> WHEREAS, a veterans center will serve the social needs of veterans, veteran <br /> organizations, and veteran associations, by providing a central facility to hold large gatherings, <br /> funeral services, and military related celebrations; and <br /> WHEREAS, House Resolution No. 142 and House Concurrent Resolution No. 163 <br /> requested that State of Hawai`i Governor Neil Abercrombie set aside and transfer sixty acres of <br /> land to support the establishment of a West Hawai`i Multi-Purpose and Intergenerational <br /> Veterans Center; and <br /> WHEREAS, House Resolution No. 142 and House Concurrent Resolution No. 163 were <br /> adopted on March 15, 2011; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Council of the County of Hawai`i concurred with the intent and purpose <br /> of House Resolution 142 and House Concurrent Resolution No. 163 and adopted Resolution No. <br /> 59-11 in support of the Governor setting aside lands for the establishment of a West Hawai`i <br /> Multi-Purpose and Intergenerational Veterans Center on May 4, 2011; and <br /> WHEREAS, House Bill No. 1468, Relating To Capital Improvement Projects For The <br /> Benefit Of The Seventh Representative District, provides for an appropriation for fiscal year <br /> 2013-2014 in the amount of$300,000 for the site selection and planning of the West Hawai`i <br /> Veterans Center; now, therefore, <br /> BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that the <br /> Hawai`i State Legislature is urged to appropriate funds for the site selection and planning of the <br /> West Hawai`i Multi-Purpose and Intergenerational Veterans Center. <br />
