<br /> 2012 Annual Report to the Mayor

<br /> Introduction
<br /> Pursuant to Section 2-217 of the Hawai`i County Code, 1983, 2005 Edition (see Appendix
<br /> 1), the Hawai`i County Public Access, Open Space, and Natural Resources Preservation
<br /> Commission is submitting this 2012 Annual Report and Prioritized List to the Mayor (see Appendix
<br /> 2 for detailed descriptions and maps of these prioritized properties).
<br /> The Commission is advisory to the Mayor and is responsible for annually developing and
<br /> submitting a prioritized list of lands to be considered for acquisition. For discussion of acquisitions
<br /> completed in 2012 please refer to Appendix 3, Summary of 2012 Acquisitions. The Commission
<br /> has also compiled a report on the status of all properties on past prioritized lists which provides
<br /> detailed information for each property (see Appendix 4) and a report that provides funding sources
<br /> used for acquisition (see Appendix 5).
<br /> In addition, the Commission refined the assessment form with criteria to receive and
<br /> prioritize suggestions from the community for lands worthy of preservation and/or public access.
<br /> All submittals from the inception of the Commission have been put into the Comprehensive List
<br /> (see Appendix 6). This list attests to the informed participation of community groups and
<br /> individual citizens interested in the preservation of our island's resources.
