No. 379 <br />PLACE: Council Chambers <br />Kona, Hawaii <br />TIME: 9:10 a.m. <br />Council Chair and Members <br />Hawaii County Council <br />Hilo, Hawaii 96720 <br />Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Communication No. 379, reports as follows: <br />Communication No. 379, transmitted by Mayor William P. Kenoi dated July 31, 2013, requests <br />review and favorable recommendation of the nomination of Mr. Douglass S. Adams to the <br />County of Hawaii Board of Ethics. <br />Mr. Adams is a member of the W.H. Shipman, Ltd. Board of Directors and has served for the <br />past 21 years. He is currently a member and president -elect of the Rotary Club of Hilo, and is a <br />member of the Board of Directors for the Boys and Girls Club on the Big Island. Mr. Adams <br />states he is not affiliated with any political party. If confirmed, he will serve a term to expire on <br />December 31, 2017, replacing David Heaukulani whose term expired on December 31, 2012. <br />Ms. Char Shigemura, Executive Assistant to Mayor Kenoi, came forward to introduce Nominee <br />Adams. She provided background information, expressed the Mayor's support, and requested <br />the Council's favorable action of this appointment. <br />Mr. Adams expressed his desire to serve the public, while maintaining community trust in <br />government. <br />Several Council Members spoke in support of Mr. Adams's nomination to the County of Hawaii <br />Board of Ethics. <br />Mr. Adams is not required to be present at full Council for final confirmation. <br />Pursuant to Article XIV, Section 14 -5, of the Hawaii County Charter (2012 Edition), there shall <br />be a board of ethics appointed by the Mayor with the approval of the Council. <br />FC Report No. 84 <br />
