COUNTY OF HAWAII -.,\-" % STATE OF HAWAII <br /> ••,•'••.4Tl OF.N►s-- <br /> RESOLUTION NO. 189 1 <br /> A RESOLUTION URGING THE PLANNING DIRECTOR TO NAME THE ROADWAY <br /> CREATED BY THE MAMALAHOA BYPASS HIGHWAY PROJECT "ALI`I DRIVE." <br /> WHEREAS, the County Council may initiate the naming or renaming of an existing <br /> street pursuant to Section 14-85 of the Hawai`i County Code; and <br /> WHEREAS, Section 14-86(b) of the Hawai`i County Code, relating to street name <br /> criteria, states that "Streets continuing through an intersection or are segments of a planned <br /> alignment shall keep the same name."; and <br /> WHEREAS, the roadway created by the Mamalahoa Bypass Highway project has not <br /> been officially named; and <br /> WHEREAS, this roadway is located midway between the shoreline and Mamalahoa <br /> Highway and starts at the end of Ali`i Drive in Keauhou, North Kona, and runs 5.5 miles to the <br /> junction of Mamalahoa Highway and Napo`opo`o Road in South Kona; and <br /> WHEREAS, this roadway will geographically, visually, and symbolically connect <br /> several prominent Hawaiian historical sites to the Royal Centers of Kona along the Kona Coast <br /> on Ali`i Drive; now, therefore, <br /> BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that it <br /> hereby urges the Planning Director to name the roadway created by the Mamalahoa Bypass <br /> Highway project "Ali`i Drive," as indicated on the attached maps identified as Exhibit A. <br />
