BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that 2014 be designated the year of the Hawai`i-grown orchid. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the County of Hawai`i, in partnership with Hawai`i Island's orchid societies, create an orchid-themed calendar for the year 2014 that would promote 12 varieties of orchids that are traditionally grown on this island. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the calendar will promote one orchid per month with a description of each orchid and that the County of Hawai`i, in partnership with Hawai`i Island's orchid societies, in particular the Hilo Orchid Society, will help to promote each month's Hawai`i-grown orchid throughout the year. BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the County Clerk shall forward copies of this resolution the Honorable William P. Kenoi, Mayor, County of Hawaii; the Director of Research and Development; the Hilo Orchid Society; the Kona Orchid Society; the Kona Daifukuji Orchid Club; the Executive Director of the Hawai`i Island Chapter of the Hawai`i Visitor's and Convention Bureau; the President of the Hawai`i Tourism Authority; the Chairperson of the Hawai`i Department of Agriculture; the Director of the Hawai`i State Department of Business, Economic Development and Tourism; and the Director of the College of Tropical Agriculture and Human Resources at the University of Hawai`i at Hilo.
