Below, in alphabetical order, are the <br /> three (3) nominees recommended by the Planning Director for appointment to four (4) <br /> year terms on the Puna CDP Action Committee. A brief summary of the experience and <br /> attributes that they would bring to the Action Committee is also provided for your <br /> convenience. <br /> Leila I.B.W. Kealoha - Ms. Kealoha is a 1994 graduate of Pahoa High School and <br /> received her teaching certificate from the UH Hilo Halau Wanana Teacher Program in <br /> 2010. She is currently employed as a cultural education resource specialist and teacher <br /> at Kua 0 Ka La Public Charter School in Pu`ala`a, Puna. She also serves on the <br /> Advisory Board for the Hawaii Community College Forest TEAM Program. Her <br /> experience and appreciation of the importance of natural resource preservation <br /> combined with her being a kama'aina of Puna for her entire life will ensure that the host <br /> culture perspective is properly represented on the Puna CDP AC. <br /> Susan L. Osborne - Ms. Osborne relocated to Hawaii 30 years ago from Canada and <br /> has resided in Puna for most of that time. In 1994, she co-founder Ho`oulu Lahui, a <br /> 501(c)(3) organization, whose mission is to perpetuate the native Hawaiian lifestyles, <br /> practices and beliefs in partnership with the community to achieve unity, harmony and <br /> total well-being. Since 2000 she has been employed as the Principal at Kua 0 Ka La <br /> Public Charter School in Pu`ala, Puna. She also previously served for one year on the <br /> Hawaii County Charter Commission. Her experience in educating Puna's youth, grant <br /> writing and the preservation of the Hawaiian cultural heritage will undoubtedly be a <br /> valuable asset to the efforts of the PCDP AC to strive towards implementation of the <br /> Puna CDP in a manner that is effective and pono.
