COUNTY OF HAWAII ••���" / STATE OF HAWAII <br /> . ire' ?:�►`�: <br /> • 7rE OF•M�,� <br /> RESOLUTION NO. 277 14 <br /> A RESOLUTION URGING THE STATE DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION TO <br /> PROVIDE MATCHING FUNDS FOR THE PLANNING, DESIGN, AND <br /> CONSTRUCTION OF A PARKING LOT AND A STUDENT DROP-OFF/PICK-UP <br /> FACILITY AT HONOKA`A ELEMENTARY SCHOOL. <br /> WHEREAS, Honoka`a Elementary School has insufficient parking and lacks a safe <br /> student drop-off/pick-up facility; and <br /> WHEREAS, the community has voiced its concerns over public safety issues, traffic <br /> congestion, and the need for parking and access improvements at Honoka`a Elementary School; <br /> and <br /> WHEREAS, the General Plan, Hamakua Community Development Plan, and Honoka`a <br /> Business Association all recognize the need to reduce traffic between Honoka`a High School and <br /> Honoka`a Elementary School (on Pakalana Street) for safety purposes and also to provide <br /> adequate parking for the schools and for the future expansion of Honoka`a Park, as well as an <br /> adequate student drop-off/pick-up facility; and <br /> WHEREAS, the construction of a new parking lot at Honoka`a Elementary School will <br /> include a covered sidewalk for the students, and it will be a shared parking lot with the adjacent <br /> Honoka`a Park, as shown in Exhibit A; now, therefore, <br /> BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that it <br /> hereby urges both the State Department of Transportation and the County Department of Public <br /> Works to work together to provide matching funds for the planning, design, and construction of a <br /> parking lot and a student drop-off/pick-up facility at Honoka`a Elementary School. <br />
