.o;Ntrlus h.k' <br /> COUNTY OF HAWAII -•_��'''°::�/ •' STATE OF HAWAII <br /> RESOLUTION NO. 2S 14 <br /> A RESOLUTION URGING THE HAWAII STATE LEGISLATURE TO PASS SENATE <br /> BILL NO. 2920 AND HOUSE BILL NO. 2469 TO ADDRESS THE THREAT OF THE <br /> LITTLE FIRE ANT. <br /> WHEREAS, Senate Bill No. 2920 and House Bill No. 2469 will fund a pilot project <br /> under the Hawai`i County Department of Parks and Recreation to address the rapid spread of the <br /> invasive species known as the little fire ant; and <br /> WHEREAS, Hawai`i County has started treatment of sites infested with the little fire ant <br /> at County parks; and <br /> WHEREAS, Senate Bill No. 2920 and House Bill No. 2469 will allow for the treatment <br /> of additional public lands; and <br /> WHEREAS, the little fire ant threatens the health and safety of Hawai`i's people, <br /> livestock, pets, and native species; and <br /> WHEREAS, the spread of the little fire ant to Kaua`i, Maui, and O`ahu heightens the <br /> need for the State to develop model strategies to eradicate the threat of the little fire ant that can <br /> be implemented statewide; and <br /> WHEREAS, the pilot project will address the threat by developing strategies to combat <br /> the little fire ant on all islands and will include the hiring of necessary personnel, purchasing <br /> three different types of pesticides, and equipment maintenance; now, therefore, <br /> BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that the <br /> House and the Senate are urged to approve Senate Bill No. 2920 and House Bill No. 2469 to <br /> address the threat of the little fire ant in the State of Hawai`i. <br />
