STATE OF HAWAII <br /> RESOLUTION NO. 287 14 <br /> A RESOLUTION URGING THE HAWAII STATE LEGISLATURE TO APPROVE <br /> SENATE BILL NO. 3067, WHICH WILL APPROPRIATE FUNDS FOR A <br /> FEASIBILITY STUDY FOR A PROPOSED REGIONAL LIBRARY IN THE PUNA <br /> DISTRICT. <br /> WHEREAS, with a population of approximately 45,000, Puna is the fastest growing area <br /> in the State of Hawai`i with the third most utilized library in the County; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Pahoa Public and School Library has had no school librarian since 2009 <br /> and operates with four full-time staff, two temporary part-time workers, and one half-time <br /> janitor; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Pahoa Public and School Library has a collection of 37,000 books; and <br /> WHEREAS, Puna has outgrown the "shared" library system at Pahoa Public and School <br /> Library; and <br /> WHEREAS, Senate Bill No. 3067 will appropriate approximately $350,000 in general <br /> revenues for a Puna library feasibility study, which will include plans for design, site <br /> improvements, and construction; now, therefore, <br /> BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that it <br /> hereby urges the Hawai`i State Legislature to approve Senate Bill No. 3067, which will <br /> appropriate funds for a feasibility study for a proposed regional library in the Puna district. <br />
