oJ+�V.Oi N��1 <br /> COUNTY OF HAWAII STATE OF HAWAII <br /> f Mi <br /> qT. <br /> RESOLUTION NO. 299 14 <br /> A RESOLUTION URGING THE HAWAII STATE LEGISLATURE TO PASS SENATE <br /> BILL NO. 2584 AND HOUSE BILL NO. 2150, WHICH APPROPRIATE FUNDS TO THE <br /> PACIFIC INTERNATIONAL SPACE CENTER FOR EXPLORATION SYSTEMS FOR <br /> A PARTNERSHIP WITH THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA TO RESEARCH <br /> PLANETARY SUSTAINABILITY TECHNOLOGIES. <br /> WHEREAS, Senate Bill No. 2584 and House Bill No. 2150 appropriate $250,000 for the <br /> Pacific International Space Center for Exploration Systems (PISCES) for planetary sustainability <br /> technology demonstrations and university-based competitions in a partnership with the State of <br /> California; and <br /> WHEREAS, PISCES promotes economic development for Hawai`i Island and the State <br /> of Hawai`i; and <br /> WHEREAS, PISCES is researching and field testing the use of basalt rock as a <br /> construction material, as an alternative to concrete that must be imported from the mainland; and <br /> WHEREAS, PISCES is researching the production of clean, renewable energy through <br /> the use of high efficiency solar concentrator technology, which could also provide power during <br /> natural disasters; and <br /> WHEREAS, PISCES will enter into a partnership with California to research planetary <br /> sustainability through technology demonstrations and university competitions that will include at <br /> least one Hawaii university team and one California university team; and <br /> WHEREAS, the technology that will be selected in California and tested in Hawai`i will <br /> have multiple uses to benefit sustainable living on Earth, the Moon and Mars; and <br /> WHEREAS, money appropriated in Senate Bill No. 2584 and House Bill No. 2150 will <br /> be made available only upon approval of matching funds from the California State Legislature; <br /> and <br /> WHEREAS, the Hawaii County Council supports PISCES and economic development <br /> in Hawaii and sustainable living; now, therefore, <br /> BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that the <br /> Hawai`i State Legislature is urged to pass Senate Bill No. 2584 and House Bill No. 2150, which <br /> appropriate $250,000 to PISCES for a partnership with the State of California to research <br /> planetary sustainability technologies. <br />
