REPORT OF THE <br /> COMMITTEE ON FINANCE <br /> DATE: February 4, 2014 Re: Comm. No. 629 <br /> PLACE: Council Chambers <br /> Hilo, Hawai`i <br /> TIME: 4:07 p.m. <br /> Council Chair and Members <br /> Hawai`i County Council <br /> Hilo, Hawai`i 96720 <br /> Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Communication No. 629, reports as follows: <br /> Communication No. 629,transmitted by Mayor William P. Kenoi, dated January 8, 2014, requests review <br /> and favorable recommendation of the nomination of Mr. Richard A. Dinges to the Tax Board of Review. <br /> Mr. Dinges is a 20-year resident of Hawai`i and is currently retired. He was employed by the Hawai`i <br /> Department of Education as a school counselor from 2002-2011. He spends his time volunteering at St. <br /> Joseph School, the Hawai`i Volcanoes National Park, Hilo Medical Center, and the lmiloa Astronomy <br /> Center. Mr. Dinges states that he is not affiliated with any political party. If confirmed, he will serve the <br /> remaining of a vacant term to end on December 31, 2016. <br /> Ms. Charmaine Shigemura, Executive Assistant to Mayor Kenoi, came forward and provided background <br /> information, expressed the Mayor's support, and requested the Council's favorable action of this <br /> appointment. <br /> Mr. Dinges appeared before Your Committee and expressed his interest in working in community <br /> government and serving as a volunteering tax preparer. <br /> Several Council Members expressed their support of Mr. Dinges' appointment to the commission. <br /> He is not required to be present at full Council for final confirmation. <br /> Pursuant to Section 19-96, Hawai`i County Code, there shall be a Real Property Tax Board of Appeals for <br /> the County,consisting of five members, appointed by the mayor and confirmed by the council. <br /> Your Committee on Finance is in accord with the purpose and intent of Comm.No. 629, and recommends <br /> confirmation of Mr. Dinges to the Tax Board of Review. <br /> sc <br /> AYES NOES ABS EX Respectfully submitted, <br /> EOFF X <br /> FORD X COMMITTEE ON FINANCE <br /> ILAGAN X <br /> KANUHA X <br /> KERN X <br /> °,f' P, a k <br /> omsm X <br /> POINDEXTER X VALERIE T.
