IOF <br /> COUNTY OF HAWAII STATE OF HAWAII <br /> tea.: <br /> art OF.M'..I <br /> RESOLUTION NO. 312 i_4 <br /> A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT <br /> AND FROM THE DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A <br /> DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT FOR THE PROMOTION OF AGRIBUSINESS AND <br /> AGRITOURISM IN PUNA. <br /> WHEREAS, the Department of Research and Development provides support, <br /> information and educational opportunities for the community which, sustain, promote and <br /> encourage Hawai`i County's growth, diversification and self-sufficiency; and <br /> WHEREAS, one of the goals of the Department of Research and Development is to <br /> assist agricultural development which, includes but is not limited to, continuing education, <br /> agribusiness, agritourism, and expansion of locally sourced edibles and non-edibles; and <br /> WHEREAS, according to the 2012 Baseline Study for Food Self-Sufficiency in Hawai`i <br /> County, the Puna district has an extensive 8,880 acres of crop lands, with "relatively inexpensive <br /> land prices," which have made Puna one of the fastest growing districts in the state; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Department of Research and Development also partners with <br /> community resources to provide grant and research opportunities, educational workshops and <br /> small business development; and <br /> WHEREAS, Kalani Honua Inc., is a non-profit 501(c)(3), that specializes in eco- <br /> tourism, agritourism, community workshops and events, and continuing education; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Department of Research and Development will award Kalani Honua <br /> Inc., $5,000 for marketing support; and <br /> WHEREAS, Contingency Relief funds from Council District 4 will be appropriated to <br /> the Department of Research and Development to disburse to Kalani Honua Inc., for a year-long <br /> series of permaculture workshops; now, therefore, <br /> BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that the <br /> following amount is hereby transferred/appropriated as set forth below: <br /> FUND: GENERAL <br /> AMOUNT OF <br /> APPROPRIATION: $10,000 <br />
