40•w ,�Jq•� <br /> COUNTY OF HAWAII _• STATE OF HAWAII <br /> E OF MF' <br /> RESOLUTION NO. 420 14 <br /> A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT <br /> AND FROM THE DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A <br /> DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO THE HAWAII <br /> ISLAND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT BOARD, INC., FOR THE MOBILE SCIENCE <br /> OUTREACH PROGRAM. <br /> WHEREAS, in 2015, the `Imiloa Astronomy Center (IAC) will begin the pilot phase of <br /> its Mobile Science Outreach Program, and needs assistance with teacher training workshops, <br /> program supplies, travel expenses and equipment setup and breakdown; and <br /> WHEREAS, according to demographic information from the IAC, in 2012 to 2013, <br /> approximately 57 percent of field trip participants to the astronomy center were Kindergarteners <br /> through 6th graders; and <br /> WHEREAS, transportation challenges reduce the opportunities for Puna's youth to <br /> experience field trips to the facility and experience integrated Science, Technology, Engineering, <br /> Arts and Math (STEAM); and <br /> WHEREAS, the Hawaii Island Economic Development Board, Inc. (HIEDB) is a <br /> private nonprofit 501(c)(3), registered with the State of Hawaii, that assists with sustainable <br /> growth, educational innovation and initiatives, that promote academic excellence; and <br /> WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2) of the Hawaii County Code, Contingency <br /> Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via resolution <br /> identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, or event for which the <br /> grant shall be used; and <br /> WHEREAS, Contingency Relief funds from Council District 4 will be appropriated to the <br /> Department of Research and Development to provide a grant to the HIEDB to assist the IAC with <br /> the Mobile Science Outreach Program; now, therefore, <br /> BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that the <br /> following amount is hereby transferred/appropriated as set forth below: <br /> FUND: GENERAL <br /> AMOUNT OF <br /> APPROPRIATION: $15,000 <br />
