40•w ,�Jq•� COUNTY OF HAWAII _• STATE OF HAWAII E OF MF' RESOLUTION NO. 420 14 A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT AND FROM THE DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO THE HAWAII ISLAND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT BOARD, INC., FOR THE MOBILE SCIENCE OUTREACH PROGRAM. WHEREAS, in 2015, the `Imiloa Astronomy Center (IAC) will begin the pilot phase of its Mobile Science Outreach Program, and needs assistance with teacher training workshops, program supplies, travel expenses and equipment setup and breakdown; and WHEREAS, according to demographic information from the IAC, in 2012 to 2013, approximately 57 percent of field trip participants to the astronomy center were Kindergarteners through 6th graders; and WHEREAS, transportation challenges reduce the opportunities for Puna's youth to experience field trips to the facility and experience integrated Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math (STEAM); and WHEREAS, the Hawaii Island Economic Development Board, Inc. (HIEDB) is a private nonprofit 501(c)(3), registered with the State of Hawaii, that assists with sustainable growth, educational innovation and initiatives, that promote academic excellence; and WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2) of the Hawaii County Code, Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, or event for which the grant shall be used; and WHEREAS, Contingency Relief funds from Council District 4 will be appropriated to the Department of Research and Development to provide a grant to the HIEDB to assist the IAC with the Mobile Science Outreach Program; now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that the following amount is hereby transferred/appropriated as set forth below: FUND: GENERAL AMOUNT OF APPROPRIATION: $15,000
