REQUEST: <br /> Resolution authorizing the Mayor to enter into a multi-year lease agreement for two (2) Four Wheel Drive <br /> Backhoes for a period of five (5) years for the Department of Environmental Management, Solid Waste <br /> Division. <br /> B. BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION (USE ADDITIONAL SHEETS AS NEEDED): <br /> The Solid Waste Division is requesting to replace two (2) four wheel drive backhoes. Current backhoes have <br /> exceeded their useful lives and are too costly to repair. <br /> The backhoes are used on a daily basis in both Hilo and Kona. This equipment is used for the removal and <br /> loading of refuse and construction aggregates, digging and trenching, and maintenance of transfer stations <br /> and landfills. <br /> The cost in recent years for this type of equipment has been around $125,000 each, with an estimated <br /> monthly lease payment of$2,300. <br /> Funding for the lease is included in the fiscal year 13-14 budget and the proposed fiscal year 14-15 budget. <br /> This equipment will be lease financed such that the County will own the equipment at the end of the five year <br /> lease. <br /> We respectfully request that this resolution be waived from committee and placed on the next Council <br /> agenda in order to expedite the award of a bid currently projected for late June or early July. <br /> SIGNED: DATE: "6- ? 3/ y <br /> Department Head <br />
