Vie.:.' <br /> ,r�oF•M�M . <br /> RESOLUTION NO. 458 14 <br /> A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT <br /> AND FROM THE DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A <br /> DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO THE HILO-HAMAKUA <br /> COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION FOR THE 2014 PLANTATION <br /> DAZE FESTIVAL. <br /> WHEREAS, the 2014 Plantation Daze Festival is the 20-year celebration of plantation <br /> heritage and the closing of the Hilo Coast Processing Company; and <br /> WHEREAS, this event brings the community together to remember, honor, and <br /> celebrate plantation heritage and cultural diversity; and <br /> WHEREAS, the 2014 Plantation Daze Festival will honor various ethnic groups and <br /> their contributions made in food, music, and customs; and <br /> WHEREAS, the lasting contributions made to our island community by our plantation <br /> heritage will bridge intergenerational/intercultural gaps that are experienced in our communities <br /> today; and <br /> WHEREAS, events and activities during the festival will include food booths, music and <br /> dancing, games and competitions, museum tours and "talk stories", a program to honor local <br /> sugar workers, as well as "characters" circulating in traditional dress telling their tales; and <br /> WHEREAS, Contingency Relief funds will be used to purchase sound equipment, <br /> portable toilets, a sampan shuttle, recording equipment for oral histories, t-shirts for volunteers, <br /> prizes, promotional print ads, banners and flyers, as well as other miscellaneous items; and <br /> WHEREAS, the 2014 Plantation Daze Festival is being organized by the Hilo-Hamakua <br /> Community Development Corporation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, and co-sponsored by <br /> the Hawai`i County Department of Parks and Recreation; and <br /> WHERAS,pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2) of the Hawai`i County Code, Contingency <br /> Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting county department/agency via resolution <br /> identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, or event for which the <br /> grant shall be used; and <br /> WHEREAS, Contingency Relief funds from Council District 1 will be appropriated to <br /> the Department of Parks and Recreation to provide a grant to the Hilo-Hamakua Community <br /> Development Corporation for the 2014 Plantation Daze Festival; now, therefore, <br />
