REPORT OF THE <br /> COMMITTEE ON PLANNING <br /> REGARDING: Communication No. 938 <br /> DATE: July 17, 2014 <br /> LOCATION: Council Chambers, Kona, Hawai`i <br /> TITLE: NOMINATIONS OF ZON M. SULLENBERGER TO KAILUA <br /> VILLAGE DESIGN COMMISSION <br /> EXPLANATION: Communication dated June 25, 2014, from Mayor William P. Kenoi, <br /> submitting for the Council's review and confirmation of Mr. <br /> Sullenberger's nomination. Executive Assistant to the Mayor, Ms. <br /> Charmaine Shigemura, introduced nominee. <br /> A 13-year resident of Hawai`i, Mr. Sullenger is the Residential Project <br /> Manager of Kohanaiki Shores, LLC; a member of the American Institute <br /> of Architects, the former president of Big Island Section of the Honolulu <br /> Chapter of AIA, and the former Big Island Representative to the Board of <br /> Directors of the Honolulu Chapter of AIA. Mr. Sullenberger states that he <br /> is not affiliated with any political party. If confirmed, he will serve a term <br /> to expire on December 31, 2014. <br /> Mr. Sullenberger appeared in front of your Committee with no statement <br /> to offer. For future reference, Council Member Kanuha expressed that <br /> allowing nominees to make statements to the Council, as well as having <br /> supporters in attendance helps support the written background provided to <br /> the Council prior to meeting nominees. <br /> Your Committee agreed that Mr. Sullenberger is not required to appear at <br /> final confirmation before the full Council. <br /> RECOMMENDATION: Confirmation of the appointments of Zon M.
