'pNt:.es...•. <br /> • <br /> % STATE OF HAWAII <br /> • <br /> COUNTY OF HAWAII .• �-- <br /> RESOLUTION NO. 490 14 <br /> A RESOLUTION REQUESTING THE HAWAII STATE ASSOCIATION OF <br /> COUNTIES TO INCLUDE IN ITS 2015 LEGISLATIVE PACKAGE A BILL <br /> APPROPRIATING OPERATING FUNDS FOR THE PACIFIC INTERNATIONAL <br /> SPACE CENTER FOR EXPLORATION SYSTEMS. <br /> WHEREAS, Act 169 (2012) transferred the Pacific International Space Center for <br /> Exploration Systems (PISCES) from the University of Hawai`i at Hilo to the Office of <br /> Aerospace Development in the Department of Business, Economic Development, and Tourism; <br /> and <br /> WHEREAS, PISCES is an economic driver for the counties of the State of Hawai`i and <br /> will promote the establishment and growth of new sustainable and green industries along with <br /> associated jobs, workforce development, and internships, as well as science, technology, <br /> engineering, and math education programs; and <br /> WHEREAS, PISCES' goal is to develop a world-class research and education/training <br /> center in Hawai`i that can facilitate the design, testing, and validation of new technologies to <br /> support robotic and human missions to space; and <br /> WHEREAS, PISCES is a State agency that relies on annual appropriations from the <br /> Legislature for personnel costs, operating expenses, and the purchase of equipment, materials, <br /> and services; and <br /> WHEREAS, an increase in funds is needed for fiscal year 2015-2016 to allow PISCES <br /> to build upon past achievements and to fulfill its mission; now, therefore, <br />
