No. 952/Res.No. 473-14 <br /> PLACE: Council Chambers <br /> Hilo, Hawai`i <br /> TIME: 10:48 a.m. <br /> Council Chair and Members <br /> Hawaii County Council <br /> Hilo, Hawai`i 96720 <br /> Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Resolution No. 473-14, reports as follows: <br /> Resolution No. 473-14,transmitted jointly with Bill No. 273, by Finance Director Nancy Crawford <br /> via Communication No. 952, dated July 18, 2014, authorizes the Office of the Mayor to enter into an <br /> agreement with the Hawai`i Invasive Species Council (HISC), pursuant to Hawai`i Revised Statutes 46-7, <br /> for a grant for the County of Hawai`i's Little Fire Ant(LFA) Control program. <br /> The agreement accepts $175,000 from HISC to hire up to three employees and provide them with <br /> equipment and materials to control the fire ant at Parks and Recreation Department facilities. <br /> Council Member Onishi expressed his gratitude to Parks and Recreation Business Manager Darren Takiue <br /> for coming up with a plan and securing the HISC funds. After being rated low, Mr. Onishi stated that he <br /> and Mr. Takiue fought for the money and were granted the funds after a long application and interview <br /> process. <br /> Mr. Takiue appeared before the Committee on Finance for questions. He explained the grant process and <br /> the hurdles they faced in the process of acquiring the HISC funds for the war against the LFA. <br /> Council Member Kern expressed his support and thanks to Council Member Onishi and Mr. Takiue.
