//J+tY�oF N <br /> COUNTY OF HAWAII -•���'= .�/:• STATE OF HAWAII <br /> RESOLUTION NO. 531 14 <br /> A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT <br /> AND FROM THE DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A <br /> DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO THE BOYS & GIRLS <br /> CLUB OF THE BIG ISLAND, HAMAKUA CLUB FOR REDUCE, REUSE, AND <br /> RECYCLE PROJECTS. <br /> WHEREAS, to reduce, reuse, and recycle helps to promote and cut down on the amount <br /> of waste we put into the earth, as well as conserve natural resources and landfill space; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Boys & Girls Club of the Big Island, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, <br /> is looking to involve youth in community service at the Hamakua Club, to foster more <br /> sustainable lifestyle habits among themselves and their peer groups; and <br /> WHEREAS, the projects will raise awareness as youth take leadership roles to foster <br /> positive club-wide change with ripple effects into club families, in addition to imparting <br /> citizenship values, thinking skills and creativity; and <br /> WHEREAS, three projects will be implemented as follows: 1. creating and maintaining <br /> an in-club recycle station; 2. recycle and reuse rice bags into sturdy shopping bags; and 3. games <br /> and fun projects to foster creativity, build interest and develop motivational skills for recycling; <br /> and <br /> WHEREAS, funds are needed to help with expenses which will include the purchase of <br /> recycling bins, trash bags, latex gloves, science kits, games, prizes and supplies for a project to <br /> create shopping bags from repurposed rice bags; and <br /> WHEREAS,pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawai`i County Code, <br /> Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via <br /> resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event, activity, <br /> service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; and <br /> WHEREAS, Contingency Relief funds from Council District 1 will be appropriated to <br /> the Department of Environmental Management to provide a grant to the Boys & Girls Club of <br /> the Big Island, Hamakua Club, for reduce, reuse, and recycle projects; now, therefore, <br />
