Mv.os M� <br />COUNTY OF HAWAII STATE OF HAWAII <br />OFN'� <br />RESOLUTION NO. 605 14 <br />A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING /APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT <br />AND FROM THE DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A <br />DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO THE AMERICAN RED <br />CROSS, HAWAII STATE CHAPTER, TO ASSIST IN EXPENSES RELATED TO <br />RECRUITING AND TRAINING DISASTER VOLUNTEERS. <br />WHEREAS, due to the aftermath of Hurricane Iselle, the American Red Cross, Hawaii <br />State Chapter, has identified the need to recruit and train more volunteers islandwide to assist <br />with staffing shelters and to provide disaster relief to local communities; and <br />WHEREAS, the American Red Cross, Hawaii State Chapter, is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit <br />organization that exists to provide compassionate care to those in need through five -key service <br />areas: Disaster Relief, Supporting America's Military Families, Lifesaving Blood, Health and <br />Safety Services, and International Services; and <br />WHEREAS, in disaster relief events, the American Red Cross, Hawaii State Chapter, <br />provides food, shelter, health, and mental health services; and <br />WHEREAS, program expenses would include training costs, such as training materials, <br />travel, and meals, and the following trainings will be provided to those communities interested: <br />Disaster Services — An Overview Course, Damage Assessment, and Sheltering Course and Drill; <br />and <br />WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2- 139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawaii County Code, <br />Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department /agency via <br />resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event, <br />activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; and <br />WHEREAS, Contingency Relief funds from Council District 5 will be appropriated to <br />the Department of Research and Development to provide a grant to the American Red Cross, <br />Hawaii State Chapter, to assist in expenses related to recruiting and training disaster volunteers; <br />now, therefore, <br />
